  1. Schooling
    1. Elementary School (Compulsory)
      1. Refers to the first 8 years of formal education
        1. children finish elemtary school when they are in fifth or sixth grade (aged 11 or 12)
          1. successful completion of elementary education students can then go onto middle school (aged 11 or 12)
          2. children start elementary school when they are five or six years old
            1. A child's ability to move from one year to the next is based on their achievement of specified skills. If these are not met then a child is expected to repeat the year.
              1. Subjects studied include, maths, english, science, geography, history, addiotnal languages, music etc
              2. Kindergarden
                1. first year of primary education. Children start kindergarten at the age of 5 years
                  1. Pre kindergarden
                    1. This is an optional part of a child's education which is for children aged three to five years. These two years are believed to be a crucial part of a child's education. During this period the main focus is to enhance the child's formation of character, develop their personality, cognition, curiosity, social skills, emotional development, develop their physical skills, , their curiosity and language skills.
                  2. High school
                    1. Junior high (12- 14 years)
                      1. senior high (15- 17 years)
                    2. In 2001, there were 92,858 elementary schools (68,173 public, 24,685 private) in the United States.
