Conflict is INEVITABLE because of the:
-Nature of projects triying to address the needs and requeriments of many stakehoulders
-Limited power of the project manager
-Necessity of obtaining resources from funtional manager
WHO SHOULD RESOLVE THE CONFLICT?
Those who have the conflict,possibly assited by the project manager
The project manager has a professional respnsibility
as part of basic project management to attemp to
avoid conflicts through the following actions:
COLLABORATING (PROBLEM SOLVING)
the parties openly discuss differences and try to
incorporate multiple viewpoints in order to lead
to consensus
leads to win-win situation
COMPROMISING (RECONCILING)
involves finding solutions that bring some
degree of satisfaction to both parties
this is a lose-lose situation, since no
party get everything
WITHDRAWAL (AVOIDANCE)
The parties retreat or post pone a decision on a problem
is not usually the BEST choice for resolving conflict
SMOOTHING (ACOMMODATING
Emphasizes agreement rather than
differences of opinion
FORCING (DIRECTING)
Involves pushing one viewpoint at the expense of another
