Resumo de Recurso

Electron transport chain
  1. H atoms(electrons it posses) potential source of energy carried by NAD and FAD from Krebs cycle
    1. Energy of those electrons is converted into a form the cells can use, ATP
    2. Occurs in mitochondria
      1. Enzymes and proteins attached to cristae, involved in the ETC, hence ATP synthesis
        1. Have more densely packed cristae-provide a greater surface area for the attachments of enzymes and other proteins Involved in ETC
        2. ATP synthesis using ETC:
          1. 1. H atoms (from glycolysis and Krebs cycle) combine with coenzymes NAD, FAD, attached to the cristae
            1. 2. NADH and FADH donate e- of the H atoms they are carrying to the 1st molecule in the ETC
              1. 3. Release of protons from H atoms-actively transported across the inner mitochondrial membrane
                1. 4. e- pass along a chain of ET carriers in series of oxi-red reactions, lost energy used for ADP +Pi =>ATP, remaining energy released as heat
                  1. 5. Proton accumulate in the space between two mitochondrial membranes before the diffuse back into mitochondrial matrix through special proteinChannel
                    1. 6. At the end of chain e- combine with protons and O2 to form water. O2-final acceptor of e- in the ETC
