1. Phagocytosis
  1. recognise foreign anitgen/bacteria
  2. form Phagocytic Vacuole
  3. lyszome enzymes secreted into vacuole
  4. bacteria/antigen gets hydrolysed
  5. antigen may get used for antigen presentation
2. T-Cells
  1. Helper T-Cells
    1. Stimulate B-Cells to secrete antibodies
    2. Stimulate Cytoxic T-cells to kill abnormal cells
  2. T-Memory Cells
    1. Remember Antigens person was exposed to
3. B-Cells
  1. Complementary to one antigen
  2. Clonal selection- selection of correct antibody
    1. Divide into plasma cells and antibodies are secreted
  3. B-Memory cells remember complementary antibody for the antigen
Types of Response
1. Cellular
  1. T-Cells & other immune system cells e.g. Phagocytes
2. Humoral
  1. B-Cells and clonal selection (production of antibodies)
Primary & Secondary Response
1. Primary
  1. Slow response
    1. No T-memory cells
    2. No B-memory cells
  2. Some T & B Memory cells produced
2. Secondary
  1. Faster
    1. Memory cells are present from primary response
    2. Faster clonal selection
    3. Faster and more anitbodies produced
Types of Immunity
1. Active
  1. Natural - immune after catching a disease
  2. Passive - Immune after vaccination
2. Passive
  1. Natural - baby getting antigens from mother
  2. Artificial - injection of antibodies produced by someone else
Antigenic Vriation
1. Same Bacteria different antigen
  1. Slower immune response
  2. Primary Response for each strain
