The process of sorting organisms into groups based on their characteristics
Species
Organisms that have many characteristics in common are grouped together
species that share many characteristics are grouped together as genus.
Genera that share many characteristics are groups as a family and so on.
the five kingdoms of organisms
Animalia
multicellular; no cell walls; complex structure with nucleus
Plantea
multicellular; autotrophic feeders using chlorophyll; cell walls made of cellulose; complex cell structure
Fungi
multicellular; saprophytic feeders so no chlorophyll; complex cell structure
Protoctista
Mostly unicellular; complex cell structure with neclues
Prokaryotae
unicellular; simple cell structure with no neuclues
Multicellular
Made if many cells
No kingdom for viruses
scientist do not think them as alive
They don't show other life processes like growth or feeding
it changes the way the cell works and makes copies of itself
