Primary Education
1. Not compulsory until 6 yrs

5. Runs for 8 years
6. No formal exams at end of schooling

Secondary Education
1. Community-Comprehensive-Vocational-Secondary schools
2. Three yr junior cycle - end with JC
3. Two yr senior cycle - end with LC
4. Compulsory + Optional Subjects & differentiation levels (HL,OL,F)
5. TY - LCVP - LCA available
  1. TY = non exam, student based - encourages self development
  2. LCVP = studying 5 subjects - compulsory link modules - emphasis on work - world of business
6. LCA- those who don't wish to avail of 3rd level ed - continuous assesment
7. PLCs - full time/1 or 2 yr courses - provide people with technological & vocations skills for employment
Third Level Education

2. 3 main sectors; Universities-Institutes of Technology-Colleges of Education
3. 7 universities in Irelamd - UCG;UCD;DCU;UL;NUI;UCC;Trinity
  1. Offer diploma & degree courses
4. Colleges of Education = specific for teacher training
  1. Mary I; St.Pat's (Drumcondra); St.Angela's
5. 13 ITs in Ireland - education & training in areas like business
  1. HETAC award non-uni higher ed qualifications
Adult & Second Chance Education
1. develop culture of lfielong learning
2. -to follow area of interest
3. -to imrpove qualifications for self fulfillment

  3. FÁS - training & employment programmes in workshops
