JUly 19th-20th, 1848: first gathering of women rights activist happens in Seneca Falls, New York
1850: Susan B. Anthony met Elizabeth Cady Stanton, together they fought against the denial of basic economic freedom
1869: two distinct factions of the suffrage movement emerged. Stanton and Anthony created awsa
1878: they introduced congress to a women's suffrage amendment, this cause the campaign to be stalled.
1880's: the two wings of womens rights movement struggled to maintain momentum. The awsa came together with the nwsa
late 1880's - early 1890's: a lot of middle class women wanted to voluenteer
1893: Colorado gave women the right to vote
1896: utah and idaho gave women the right to vote
1910-1914: washington, california, arizona, kansas, oregon, illinois
1913-alice paul formed a rival union and they used more militant tactics (examples: picketing, rallies, marches, hunger strikes)
1915-: Carrie Chapman Catt- veteran suffragist, former president of the nwsa. She wanted relentless effort
1917-arkansas and new york allowed women to vote, -President wilson urged congress to pass a voting rights amendment
1922: Rebecca Latimer Felton of Georgia, was the first women to serve in the senate
1922: lady ashton became the first women to be in british parliment.
1921: a monument of lucrettia mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B Anthony was unveiled.
august 26, 1920: The 19th amendment providing full rights for women nationally was ratified when tennesse became the 36th state to approve it.
june 1919: the senate concurs
