  1. Natural/Artificial Perfumes
    1. Esters are used as perfumes because they smell nice.
      1. Esters are common in nature. Fruity and flowery smells contain natural esters
        1. Esters can also be manufactured synthetically to be used as perfumes
        2. Esters are made by heating an acid with an alcohol
          1. ACID + ALCOHOL->ESTER + WATER
          2. Properties of a Perfume
            1. Easily Evaporates
              1. or else perfume particles wouldn't be able to reach your nose.
              2. Non-Toxic
                1. it mustn't seep through your skin and poison you
                2. Doesn't irratate the skin
                  1. or else you couldn't apply it directly onto you
                  2. Insoluble in water
                    1. it would wash off too easily otherwise
                  3. New products have to be tested
                    1. Products have to be tested thoroughly to make sure they are safe to use.
                      1. Some tests are carried out on animals
                        1. Controversial
                          1. Some people think it's wrong to cause suffering to animals just to test cosmetic's safety
                          2. Banned in EU
                            1. some think this is ok. so it doesn't harm Humans
