Simple sentence- A simple sentence has
a subject and only one verb.Example: The
students are learning.
A main clause is a clause
that can form a complete
sentence standing alone.
A subordinate clause is a
clause that does not make
sense alone.
A simile is a figure of speech that
compares two things or persons which
are not similar. Example: As big as an
elephant.
A metaphor is a word or
phrase that is used to
make a comparison
between two people,
things, animals, or
places. Example: The
snow is a white blanket.
A compound sentence is formed
when you join two main clauses
with a connective. In a compound
sentence the clauses are linked by
coordinating conjunctions /
connectives (and, but, so, or).
Example: I like bananas and I like
apples.
