  1. Definitions
    1. Health
      1. A state of complete mental, social and physical well-being an not merely the absence of disease and infirmity
      2. Fitness
        1. The ability to meet the demand of the environment
        2. Exercise
          1. A form of physical activity to maintain or improve fitness. It is not a competitive sport
        3. Health-related fitness
          1. Cardiovascular fitness
            1. The ability to exercise the entire body for long periods of time without tiring
            2. Muscular endurance
              1. The ability to use the same muscle group repeated times without them tiring
              2. Muscular strength
                1. The amount of force a muscle can exert against a resistance
                2. Body composition
                  1. the percentage of body weight that is fat, muscle and bone
                  2. Flexibility
                    1. The range of movement possible at a joint
                  3. Skill-related fitness
                    1. Agility
                      1. The ability to change the direction/position of the body quickly
                        1. Players in rugby need agility to avoid tackles from the opposition
                        2. Balance
                          1. The ability to retain the body's centre of mass above the base support
                            1. Static balance = When stationary so holding a balance
                              1. Dynamic balance = When moving. For example when spinning to throw a discus
                              2. Co-ordination
                                1. The ability to use 2 or more body parts at the same time
                                  1. Eyes and hands when playing tennis
                                  2. Power
                                    1. The ability to perform actions requiring strength with speed
                                      1. A high jumper needs an powerful jump to get over the bar
                                      2. Reaction time
                                        1. The ability to react quickly to a stimulus
                                          1. A sprinter needs to react quickly to the starting gun
                                          2. Speed
                                            1. The time it takes to perform a particular action or cover a distance
                                              1. A sprinter needs speed to cover 100m as quick as they can
