  1. Contingent Rewards: rewards given based on a specific behaviour that is explained ahead of time.
    1. These types of rewards result in less of desired behaviour if the reward is not repeated again.
      1. Don't assume money or other extrinsic rewards are the best
        1. Instead look for intrinsic rewards
          1. If what you're designing allows people to connect with other people, then they will want to use it.
          2. If you do use an extrinsic reward, make it unexpected
      2. Intrinsic rewards include things such as: personal achievement, professional growth, sense of pleasure and accomplishment.
        1. Extrinsic motivation is based on tangible rewards, is external to the individual and is typically offered by a supervisor or manager.
