1543 Vesalius published an important book called The Fabric of the Human Body. His book included drawings showing the muscles, nerves, organs and skeleton of the human body based on dissections of corpses.
Because of his dissections, he discovered that some of Galen's teachings were wrong.
Galen Said the heart is divided by a septum which has holes in it to allow blood to pass through. Said the liver had five parts or lobes. Said the sternum had seven parts.
Vesalius Showed the septum does not have holes. Showed the liver does not have any lobes. Showed this was true for Monkeys and pigs but lower jaw in Humans is a single bone. Showed it only had 3.
