Learning outcomes Describe interactions between organisms and their environment using fiddler crabs and mangroves as examples. Give examples of sensory systems and communication in fiddler crabs. Relate the anatomy of fiddler crabs to the visual signals that they display, sense and respond to. Describe physiological adaptations to varying external conditions using crabs and osmoregulation as an example. Use crabs as an example to describe how whole-organism biology can be addressed from a number of perspectives, including physiology, behaviour and evolution. Apply knowledge of phylogenetic principles to particular examples of marine arthropods. Apply skills of data handling and analysis to behavioural and physiological observations.
