Intra-op

Circulating nurse Highly experienced nurse who co-ordinates lots of activities before, during and after a surgical procedure. Also known as a [blank_start]scout nurse.[blank_end]  The circulating nurse oversees the physical aspects of the [blank_start]operating room[blank_end] - including [blank_start]equipment[blank_end]. Assists with [blank_start]transferring[blank_end] and positioning the patient. Prepares the patient's [blank_start]skin[blank_end].  Records the surgical [blank_start]count[blank_end] of all accountable items. Responsible for documenting all [blank_start]intraoperative[blank_end] nursing activities.

Instrument nurse primarily involves technical skills, manual dexterity and in-depth knowledge of the [blank_start]anatomical[blank_end] and mechanical aspects of the surgery. Handles sutures, [blank_start]instruments[blank_end] and other equipment immediately adjacent to the [blank_start]sterile[blank_end] field. 

PACU nurses are part of the [blank_start]surgical[blank_end] team and are responsible for assessing, monitoring and implementing care of people during recovery from [blank_start]anaesthesia[blank_end].

A patient must have a mod. aldrete score of [blank_start]9[blank_end] or above to be discharged from PACU
