    Japan and the US
    Western powers were interesting in the extention, in Japan was the Usa.    US sended "gun-boats diplomacy" in the later years.      The Tokugawa shogunate, who had the awareness of the China´s humiliation in the Opium War of 1839-1842.

    At the end, it was carried out the Treaty of Kanagawa (March,1854), in which opened up two of Japan´s ports to Us trade.    US- "most favoured nation".   Japan´s policy of seclusion was ended, when 200 years had already passed. 
    In 1858, Japan´s government signed the Treaty of Amity and Commerce with the US. But on the other hand,the imperial court was opposed about this.   The imperial court favoured seclusion and defended "repelling the barbarians".    Japan was under pressure to sign other treaties with other Western nations.

    Meiji Restoration, 1868
    Treaties were all signed without:      -  The emperor´s consent.       -  Prop imperial.        -  Anti Western factions.             To remover antigovernment sentiments and movements.  Shishi- men high purpose. They were prepared to kill or die.   Aizawa- inspiration, the later favoured learning from Wastern science and technology.

    Eastern morals and Western science.  Yoshida Shoin: Shishi leader, memeber of the Choshu clan., established greater national unity.  Expelling the Western barbarians. 1859, his execution.  It was adopt an Anti Western policy and new seclusion policy:   - Choshu clan leaders were able to persuade the emperor.

    The powerful Satsuma clan decided to switch its support to the Choshu against the government.  1866, the emperor died, so it came a replacement or substitute by emperor Meiji. 15 years old. 1868, the emperor established the imperial court in Edo.  New imperial government was to prevent Japan from suffering the fate.  The policy followed was Enrich the country, strenghthen the military.  Japan a strong military forces and they became a big influence. (1920s and 1930s).
