Slide 1

    Shot 1
The first shot I have chosen is a close up of what seems to be an outdated very used book, being read by a character that we cannot see. The shot uses low key lighting to portray the Thriller genre. The shot focuses purely on the book and surrounding objects are out of focus creating a focal point for the audience as the producer constructs a spotlight effect in order to achieve different moods, feelings and atmosphere’s. This creates a sense of mystery and suspense in how this book shall interact during the film. The only effect seen in this shot is the fade on and off text "New Line Cinema Presents" which begins out to be blurred and unclear until the end of the shot, suggesting everything isn't what it’s supposed to be.

Slide 2

    Shot 2
The second shot I chose was a high angle shot close up of two very discrete darkened hands on a piece of paper. The lighting is again low key, displaying the Thriller genre however a high key lighting is used very subtly to contrast as there are dramatic streaks of dark lines portraying fear and suspicion as we are unaware of who's hands they are.The Mise-en-scene is very dark although this time more on one side compared to the other creating thrills. The black connotes negativity whereas the dusky yellow is used in combination of the black to come across as unappealing and a loss of cheerfulness. This shot is important as it portrays a thriller traits and a suggested story-line.

Slide 3

    Shot 3
This is my third chosen shot. It is an extreme close up which focuses on a specific item, of what seems to be a type of razor blade, held by a character whom again is unknown. The character holding the item appears to have dirty and unclean fingers demonstrating they are a filthy person although being the fingers are unclean it links back to the title credits in the other shots. It also makes the audience think about different story lines and allows them no to be able to narrow it down easily as of right now, keeping the audience at the edge of their seat.

Slide 4

    Shot 4
This shot to state the title of the film, "Se7en", although again it comes across as distorted and jagged just like the other title credits.Black has been used as the more prominent colour but it is used with a more contrasting yellow to help with being bold. This is an important shot as the audience finally finds out the title of the film without anything too revealing towards the story-line.

Slide 5

    Shot 5
The fifth shot I chose uses a low key lighting close up of a person continuing to write on a piece of paper. High contrasting lighting is used to create black shadows and a visual of what yet is to be seen. The title credit 'Richard Roundtree' matches the other title credits within the other shots, making it look professional as it is consistent. The writing shown is unclear which entails mystery into what this character is writing about. Again the audience do not know who is writing and for what reason therefore grabbing the audience’s attention because they feel the need to carry to obtain the fulfilment of being entertained and to accomplish their needs. Even more so the colours used are black with a hint of dark green. Dark green can be a term of greed.

Slide 6

    Shot 6
The shot provided is similar to the last, of someone writing; however different editing techniques and effects have been used. It is high angles, first person shot, close up of a character highlighting or disguising multiple words. It is only a quick shot and edits demonstrating drama, and therefore the audience cannot understand as to why this shot can be used nor can the audience see what is being highlighted or disguised.

Slide 7

    Shot 7
The seventh shot I chose is a low key lighting, high contrasting light, close up of what seems to be a face covered with marker pen. The overlapping marker pen disguises the face so the audience is not capable of knowing who it is.The prominent black colour is denoting authority and power, suggesting who had crossed out this face is more dominant than the next. This shot is important because it has potentially introduced a new character into the film.

Slide 8

    Shot 8
This shot shows characters fingers, seemingly different to those compared to of 'shot 3', holding and fiddling with an item. It is very unclear what the character is doing, intriguing the audience. It is an extreme close up with low key lighting and high contrast lighting to imply a shady, mysterious mood and atmosphere. The colours used are the dusky yellow against the black, main colour theme in the opening sequence. All colours used are dark, matching the mise-en-scene. This shot is important as it creates a character who is incognito revealing the unknowing aspect of the film.

Slide 9

    Shot 9
Finally, my last shot is a clearer high angle, point of view close up that is an image of a face sellotaped to a piece of paper. The front of the face is covered by a high key lighting streak , conceiving mystery into who it is. It appears to be a male with part of his head shaven, with something sticking out from within his head. This suggests some kind of torture that has been given to this person with technical machinery. This could be how someone will be killed or how someone was killed. The image is very detailed which matches the observant theme seen in previous shots. This shot is important as the audience finally get what the character is potentially looking like although their identity is hidden from us.It is one of the final shots of the sequence, intriguing the audience to find out more and watch on further. The previous shots leading up to this one, was fast paced editing to create a dramatic atmosphere and to lead the audience on to what they have been waiting for yet it is not all the information they wanted.
