Hawaii

MARI: Hi, I’m Mari. I’m here with Ron. Ron is from Hawaii. So Ron, what is so [blank_start]special[blank_end] about Hawaii? RON: Well, Hawaii is my home, [blank_start]but[blank_end] to people not from Hawaii, I think Hawaii is famous for its nice [blank_start]weather[blank_end], its warm all year ‘round, also it’s known for its [blank_start]beaches[blank_end]. The beaches are very nice. And it’s also known for its [blank_start]warm[blank_end] hospitality. The people are also very [blank_start]nice[blank_end].

MARI: So can you [blank_start]tell[blank_end] me more about the [blank_start]weather[blank_end]? It’s always sunny? It never rains? RON: It does rain, but often it [blank_start]rains[blank_end] and it's sunny at the same time, so we have a lot of rainbows. Hawaii is also famous for [blank_start]rainbows[blank_end].

MARI: That’s [blank_start]nice[blank_end]. Can you tell me more about the beach? RON: We have [blank_start]beaches[blank_end] on all shores of the island -- all our islands. There’s many beaches to [blank_start]choose[blank_end] from. And often, some beaches have big waves, some beaches have small [blank_start]waves[blank_end], and you can choose which beach to go to depending on whether you want to surf in big waves or you want to [blank_start]swim[blank_end] where there’s no waves.

MARI: Can you tell me maybe about the [blank_start]nature[blank_end] in Hawaii? RON: We have forests, so there’s lots of animals, like [blank_start]birds[blank_end], and small animals like wallabies: we have Hawaiian wallabies and they live in the [blank_start]forest[blank_end].

MARI: What’s a [blank_start]wallaby[blank_end]? RON: Wallabies, they’re those little [blank_start]mammals[blank_end] from Australia and they were introduced to Hawaii and now they’re wild in Hawaii. They’ve become their own species. MARI: What do they [blank_start]look[blank_end] like? RON: They look like little [blank_start]kangaroos[blank_end], I think.

MARI: Interesting. [blank_start]Any[blank_end] other interesting animals in Hawaii? RON: We have a lot of pigs, [blank_start]wild[blank_end] pigs. We like to go hunting for them and we like to eat [blank_start]them[blank_end].

MARI: Are [blank_start]there[blank_end] any animals that live in the sea? RON: We have nice coral [blank_start]reefs[blank_end], so there’s lots of beautiful fish in our coral reefs and many people like to go [blank_start]snorkeling[blank_end] to look at our reefs. We also have turtles and [blank_start]seals[blank_end] in Hawaii.

MARI: Are there any [blank_start]whales[blank_end]? RON: We do have whales during the months of March till February I [blank_start]believe[blank_end]. They come from Alaska and they [blank_start]come[blank_end] to Hawaii during those months and then they return to Alaska.

MARI: Wow, [blank_start]there[blank_end] are a lot of animals that live in Hawaii. [blank_start]Sounds[blank_end] like a great place to visit.
