Marjane’s maid, Mehri pretended to be her sister because she fell in love with the guy across from her
Mehri’s real sister also fell in love with him and decided to tell her boss, marjane’s uncle, who eventually told the dad
The Dad approached the guy across and told him the truth, making him give back all the letter and forgetting about Mehri all together.

Showing that people from different social groups could not be together, Mehri, of a lower social class was marginalised and silenced as she was the maid and couldn’t read or write.
Context
After the Shah left, the political prisoners were liberated, Marjane knew 2 men one was a revolutionist and one of was a revolutionist whose profession was a journalist.
Both were imprisoned for over 6-8 years their political conviction was communist.
They had their nails ripped off, electrocuting them, families thought they were dead etc.

Showing that revolutionists in the books were silenced and excluded by imprisoning them and torturing them. No chance for changing or like doing their time and moving on was given.
