Mood/Opening Paragraph

I couldn’t sleep all night; a fog-horn was groaning incessantly on the Sound, and I tossed half-sick between grotesque reality and savage, frightening dreams. Toward dawn I heard a taxi go up Gatsby’s drive, and immediately I jumped out of bed and began to dress—I felt that I had something to tell him, something to warn him about, and morning would be too late (147).

In Chapter 1 Nick presented himself as someone whom people talk to or confess things to and in Chapter 8 the readers see this to be the case. Gatsby tells Nick about his life focusing on Daisy. Describe the reasons why Gatsby says he fell in love with Daisy.

Louisville

When Gatsby came back from the war, he went to Louisville as if he was going on a pilgrimage. Louisville is Daisy's hometown. Select elements to show that this visit left him feeling of a failure (see pages 152-153).
