Hi and welcome to this course which is an Introduction to Algebra. This course begins with a tuition video on algebra and then delves into the world of brackets, linear equations, simultaneous equations and more.
Algebra can be described as the study of mathematical symbols as well as the rules for interpreting those symbols, but don't take my word for it. This video will helpfully explain the basics of algebra.
When I started learning math, it was all numbers. Now it seems like its all letters and brackets. What's going on? This mind map demonstrates how we use brackets in algebra and how we sometimes get around them.
Factorise, expand, simplify and solve. The four basic tasks of algebra. These flashcards offer some easy examples of these actions. Answers can be found on the reverse of the cards.
Right. Lets review with a short quiz. There are ten short questions where you are asked to work out the value of the given letters. Algebra can seem hard, at first, but by practicing questions like these, you'll get it.
Okay, let's move on. A linear equation is an algebraic equation with two variables (x & y) which refers to a line in the co-ordinate plane. These notes give an easy-to-follow overview with a few examples.
As before, the best way to pick up on what we're doing is by trying to answer the questions. This quiz contains graphs where we ask how the equation of the plotted line. Have a go. You'll get the hang of it.
Okay, still with me? For simultaneous and quadratic equations, we're gonna strip it down to the basics - some simple to remember rules as laid out in this mind map.
Yippee, another quiz. Don't worry, these are just four simple questions to make sure you have the rules for simultaneous equations. A quick review and it'll be over in no time. Aim for 4 out of 4 on this. Good luck.
