Zusammenfassung der Ressource
Working Memory Model Strengths and
Weaknesses.
- Strengths
- Is supported by considerable experimental evidence.
- It explains a lot more than the multi-store model and makes sense of a range of tasks.
- Applies to real life tasks such as reading, problem solving and navigation.
- KF case study. Although he had a verbal information impairment after the crash, his visual information was largely unaffected.
- Supported by dual task studies (Baddeley and Hitch)
- Doesn't overemphasize the importance of rehersal.
- Weaknesses
- Visuo-spatial sketchpad implies all spatial information was first visual even though blind people have excelent spatial awareness.
- Little direct evidence as to how the central executive works and what it does. Its capacity hasn't even been measured.
- Not a comprehensive model of memory and only involves STM.
- Does not explain changes in processing ability that occur as a result of practice/time.
