Operating System
- If an operating system does all the things we know it does,
it seems downright impossible for a computer to exist
without one.
- Operating System, what does it do? An operating system is the most important software that
runs on a computer. It manages the computer's memory, processes, and all of its software and
hardware. It also allows you to communicate with the computer without knowing how to speak
the computer's language. Without an operating system, a computer is useless.
- Multitasking provides process and
memory management services that allow
two or more tasks, jobs, or programs to
run simultaneously
- Most operating systems have a graphical user interface, i.e. instead of
writing commands their use is based on managing graphical objects
(such as icons) with the help of e.g. a mouse. The basic principle of
GUIs is generally the same overall, so by knowing how to use a
Windows UI, you will most likely be able to use Linux, as well.
