SERVER Provides services for network users In a smal buisness one server can provide all services that are needed for that network File server-To store and provide files to the user. Web server-Uploads and distributes web pages with their linked files to the Internet. Database server-Provides database services to other computer users and programs.
Backup storage Essential to maintaining the security of data for the theatre. One method of backing up data is to store it on a removable disk. Examples of removable devices are: Hard disks Magnetic tape Or making use of cloud storage
Firewall Plays an important role in protecting networks. They act as security guards for local area networks. All data traffic that passes through the firewall is checked, using a specific set of rules to protect the network from unauthorised hackers.
Printers These can be black or white or colour dependant on the output required, and although they can be attached to a single computer. Printers are likely to be connected via a network so they can be shared.
Network infrastructure Ethernet cabling and fibre optic cabling.
Network interface card (NIC) The network card has an ethernet cable and is fitted into the back of the computer to connect to the motherboard.
Hub A hub is a device for connecting many ethernet cable-type devices, such as computers; it has several ports.
Switch These perform a similar role to hubs, but switched data tansfer is more efficent than hub transfer.
Wifi router Acts as a wireless acces point and provides network access within the theatre for a range of wifi devices such as tablet computers, smart phones and laptop computers.
Point of sale Used to help a retailer automate transactions, in this case the thatre calculates the amount owned by the customer for the tickets they wish to purchase and provides options for payment.
Kiosk system Kiosk systems are custom built for buisnesses to utilise them.
Touchscreen monitor Used for both out put and input, to display imformation and also will allow customers to make selections uising transactions
CPU Used to control the kiosk
Printer Used to print tickets and reciepts
Barcode/QR scanner Can be used to read special offer codes or codes on tickets that have already been purchased.
Card reader Used ti accept payment from credit card , including chip and pin
