Question Answer
Amide Propanil Group 7 - photosynthesis inhibitors; photosystem II inhibitors.
Bipyridylium Paraquat and diquat Group 22 - Cell membrane disrupter; photosystem I electron diverter. Inhibition of photosynthesis.
Dinitroaniline Trifluralin and pendimethalin Group 3 - Seedling root growth inhibitor; microtubule inhibitor. Absorbed primarily by emerging roots.
Diphenylether Oxyfluorfen Group 14 - Cell membrane disrupter, PPO inhibitor. Readily absorbed by leaves, chlorosis in leaves of susceptible plants, followed by desiccation and necrosis
Glycine Glyphosate Group 9 - Amino acid synthesis inhibitor; EPSP synthase inhibitor. Absorbed by foliage; translocated throughout, including roots; growth inhibited soon after application.
Phenoxy, carboxylic acids Auxinic herbicides, 2,4-D Group 4 - Growth regulators; synthesis auxins. Selective systemic. Salts rapidly absorbed by roots, esters by foliage.
Phosphinic acid Glufosinate Group 10 - Nitrogen metabolism inhibitor; glutamine synthetase inhibitor. Mainly absorbed by foliage, causing chlorosis and wilting. Translocation limited. Inhibits the activity of glutamine synthase.
Sulfonylurea Chlorsulfuron and Rimsulfuron Group 2 - Amino acid synthesis inhibitor; ALS inhibitor. Rapid foliar absorption but slower chlorosis and necrosis. Translocated.
Thiocarbamate EPTC and Thiobencarb Group 8 - Seedling shoot growth inhibitors; Lipid synthesis inhibitor (not ACCase)
Triazine Atrazine and Simazine Group 5 - Photosystem II inhibitors (different binding than groups 5 & 6). Absorbed through roots and leaves; translocated. Inhibits photosynthesis at Photosystem II.
Urea Linuron and Diuron Group 7 - Photosynthesis Inhibitors; photosystem II inhibitor (different binding than groups 5 & 6). Readily absorbed by roots and, less so, by foliage and stems. Inhibits photosynthesis at Photosystem II.
