How can project work be described? Temporary, managers need both soft & hard skills, have more responsibility than authority, a project lifecycle
What is operations? Ongoing work to ensure organization functions effectively
What is a functional manager? A person with mgmt. authority over an organizational unit; that makes the product or performs a service
What is a project life cycle? A collection of phases whose name and number are determined by the control needs of the organization
The four stages of a project life cycle are: Selecting & initiating, Planning, Executing, Closing & Realizing
PMBOK stands for: Project Management Body of Knowledge
The 5 PMBOK process groups are: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & controlling, Closing
PMBOK 9 knowledge areas: Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resources, Communication, Risk, Procurement Management
In selecting & prioritizing projects, what are the key questions? What is the value? Are the demands understood? Are resources available? Support from internal and external champions? Which projects are best to achieve organizational goals?
What is scope? The sum of products, services & results to be provided as a project
Define quality The degree to which a set of inherent characteristics fulfills requirements
Name the 4 ways to classify a project By industry, size, project scope & application
What are the 3 project executive level roles? Steering team, Chief projects officer & Sponsor
Name the 4 project management level roles: Project mgr, Functional mgr, Facilitator, Senior customer representative
The project associate level roles are: Core team members & Subject matter experts
What does Initiating mean? Defines & authorizes a project or project phase
What does planning mean? Defines & refines objectives & plans actions to achieve objectives
What does executing mean? Directs & manages people & resources to accomplish project work
What is monitoring & controlling? Collects data & checks progress to determine any needed corrective action
What is closing? Formalized acceptance of project outcomes & ending the project
