Living in Difficult conditions
Plants
long roots
Small or no leaves
smaller suface area= less water evaporating
Tissues that can store water
Animals
Must be able to manage long time without water
E.g. camels can hold over 20 litres of water stored of fat in their humps
Desert animals have large ears
large surface area= helps animal lose more body heat
Animals that live in cold places often have very thick fur and layers of fat
Fur is often white for camoflage
Plants and animals both have thorns, poisons and warning colours to deter predators
Extremophiles
These organisms live in very difficult enviroments
These are often microorganisms
Most organisms wouldn't survive in conditions such as high temps and high pressure
They have very stable protein molecules to survive
