5 developmental theories= 1. psychoanalytic- focus on early childhood experience, unconcious wishes + urges( inner drives+motives), attatchment theory, sigmund freud and erik erikson 2. behaviourism- often called learning theory, describes how behaviour is learned, john watson, ivan pavlov,B.F. skinner 3. cognitive theory-how thoughts, beliefs and intellect frame every part of development, jean piaget above is considered ( grand theories) below is considered (emergant theories) 4. socioculture theory- cultural context of human development, social + cultural forces, lev vygotsky 5. epigenetic theory- genes + environment= development, eg. selective adaptation
