As a designer you get to choose what you use multimedia-wise. Choosing the appropriate sounds for the appropriate time and place enhances the way a user perceives that experience. Here are some tips on using sounds effectively. Use sounds strategically. Overusing a sound can cause a user to "habituate" to the sound which means get used to it to the point where the sound is not as effective or its intended use is diminished. You wouldn't want to use a celebration type sound after a user gets a question wrong if the product you are creating is an education type product. Instead you may want to use a disappointing type sound that expresses the answer to the question is wrong. If the purpose of your soundis to get attention, consider changing it up strategically so that is keeps serving its intended purpose.
