How did they learn how to read? | They would first teach the boys the alphabet by making them recite it, then taught them two letter words then three letter words, etc |

How was arithmetic taught? | By using an abacus. The arithmetic was very basic |
Did the Athenians learn music? | It was very important to the Athenians. The boys were taught to play instruments such as the lyre (cithara) and the flute (aulos) |
Did they have PE? | Yes, the boys were expected to keep fit so they could defend Athens if it came to war. Many of the boys would play sports such as the javelin and the discus. They did not have sportswear back then, so the boys would do PE naked. They also covered themselves in olive oil and after PE, they would scrape it off. This was an alternative to a bath. |
What happened when the boys left school? | They received two years of military training at the age of 18. At the age of 20, they were expected to fight for Athens if it came to war. |
Where there an holidays? | There were many holidays (holy days) for everyone. February was full of holy days and there were family celebrations such as birthdays and weddings |
