Youth Hostel | A youth hostel, as suggested by its name, is usually aimed at younger people. Because the younger people may not have as much money, the prices are lower than other types of accommodation. Most youth hostels are situated in countryside areas and national parks and therefore, encourage people to enjoy the beautiful scenery. This is helpful for the younger people who are on a budget however, they will need to share rooms with complete strangers and prepare their own meals. |
Hotels | Hotels are aimed towards a larger target market and offer a wide range of facilities towards the public. They may also provide meeting and conference facilities. They can also cater for several hundred visitors based on the amount of staff that operate there. Hotels can also be part of an international chain (e.g. Premier Inn) whereas some others can be a family-run establishment that has a limited amount of rooms (e.g. Swallett Farm). |
Guesthouses | Guesthouses are not as open to the public as hotels, restaurants and other public facilities are.Instead, they are for residential use only. These are typically family-run establishments that commonly consist of 10 bedrooms or more. |
Bed and breakfasts | Bed and breakfast rooms are usually provided within a private residence. A bar and restaurant would not be available however a lounge area may or may not be provided to the guests. The establishment serves the guests their breakfast. After that, guests are not expected to stay during the day and so they typically go out. |
Lodges and motels | Lodges are in fact quite recent in the UK. They provide accommodation on a room only basis however, meals from a nearby restaurant may be available to the guest(s). Wherever the hotel is, the bedroom of the lodge is furnished to the same standards as it is. Guests that use lodges usually travel themselves by car. |
