Nucleotide structure -All combined through condensation reaction to form dinucleotide-
1. Pentose sugar - Deoxyribose
2. A phosphate
3. An organic base
  1. Single Ring- Cytosine & Thymine
  2. Double Ring- Adenine & Guanine
Pairing of Bases
1. Contain Nitrogen
2. Adenine & Guanine are double ring structures
  1. Longer molecules
3. Thymine & Cytosine are single ring stuctures
  1. Shorter molecules
4. Adenine is complementary to Thymine.
  1. Two hydrogen bonds.
5. Each rung of DNA ladder must be the same length
6. Cytosine is complementary to Guanine.
  1. Three hydrogen bonds.
Function of DNA
1. Very stable and can pass from generation to generation
2. Strands are joined by hydrogen bonds, allows them to separate during DNA replication and protein synthesis.
3. Carries immense amount of genetic material
4. Deoxyribose-phosphate backbone protects the genetic information from being corrupted by outside chemicals.
