              1. 1970's 1st single compostion spherical - Ternary system silver/tin/copper
                1. 1990's mercury free alloys (Gallium) - increased corrosion

                      1. NOWADAYS copper enriched more likely to be used
                2. WHY AMALGAM?
                  1. Inexpensive and easy to use

                  2. THERAPIST CONTROLLED VARIABLES
                    1. TRITURATION - mixing time
                      1. Over - decreases working time
                        1. Under- crumbly mix
                        2. CONDENSATION - packing material
                          1. Lathe cut - small cd, high force
                            1. spherical alloy - large cd, less sens to force
                              1. Admixture alloys - intermediate handling between both above
