what is encryption? Encryption is when you scramble a message or data (plaintext) using a cipher to make it difficult to read. The scrambled message is called ciphertext.
Does encryption stop data being stolen? Encryption can only stop people intercepting emails by scrambling the letters so it is unreadable.
Name an advantage of the RING topology method. Cheap to set up.
Name an advantage of the BUS topology method It makes it easy to connect a new device.
Name an advantage of the STAR topology method. If a device fails, all other devices will not fail.
What is a LAN and WAN. A LAN is a Local Area Network that takes up a small geographical area. A WAN is a Wide Area Network that takes up a large geographical area.
Name a disadvantage of the RING topology method. If a device fails, the others will do the same.
Name a disadvantage of the BUS topology method. If the main cable fails or is damaged, others devices will fail.
Name a disadvantage of the STAR topology method. It is very expensive to set up.
What is the purpose of a NIC? A NIC (or Network Interface Card) is a device that allows computers to connect to a network.
What is the purpose of a Router? A Router connects devices within a network.
What is the purpose of a Hub? Hubs are devices commonly used to connect segments of a LAN.
What is the Purpose of a Switch? A Switch can be used to connect multiple hosts (PCs) to the network.
What is the purpose of a WAP? A WAP (or Wireless Access Point) is a networking device that allows other Wi-Fi devices to connect to a wired network.
What is the purpose of a Web Browser? A Web Browser is an application used to access and view websites.
What is the difference between a Hub and a Switch? Switch is more efficient than the Hub. A Switch can join multiple computers within one LAN, and a Hub just connects multiple Ethernet devices together as a single segment.
What is the internet? The internet is a system of Networks that allow users to talk to each other and share information.
What is the World Wide Web? The World Wide Web is the part of the internet that shares Web pages and Websites
What is the purpose of an ISP? An ISP (or Internet Service Provider) is a company that provides internet access to Companies, Families and even Mobile Users.
What is an IP address? An IP address (or Internet Protocol Address) is a long number written in binary used to access Websites and Web Pages
What is a URL? A URL (or Uniform Resource Locator) is a way of naming documents accessible over the internet.
