Back Up | Copying data and files as insurance in case the original copies are lost. i.e. Norton Online Backup, iCloud |
Optical Disk Drive (ODD) | A method of storage. It uses laser light in order to read or write data to or from a disk. |
Sound Card | Allows the use of audio components. It allows the computer to output sound through its' speakers, record sound from the computers microphone, as well as operate audio on a disk. |
Modem/ Wifi Box | A program/device that allows a computer to carry data through cable lines or telephone wires. A wireless modem allows access to a private wireless network. i.e. Wifi router |
Local Area Network (LAN) | Is a type of computer network that links devices in a relatively small area. Most are limited to a single building. i.e. In an office building |
Wide Area Network | Is a type of computer network that extends over a fairly substantial area. It generally consists of multiple LANs. |
