Question Answer
Making Esters Esterification - making an Ester by reacting a Carboxylic Acid with an Alcohol. Esters can also be made by reacting an Anhydride with an alcohol
Hydrolysing esters (alcohol) Esters can be hydrolysed using water and an acid catalyst. (this takes them back into their constituent alcohol and carboxylic acid).
Hydrolysing Esters (Alkali) Esters can be broken down using Aqueous NaOH. This breaks the Ester down into an alcohol and a carboxylic salt (CooNa) instead of COOH)
Ester functional group O || R - C - O-R
