Resource summary
Biomechanics
Motion
Linear Motion
Motion along a line
Movement of Javelin
Can be a curved line
Skeleton Bob
Angular Motion
Movement around a fixed point or axis
Turning of a wheel
Turning of the arm during an overarm cricket bow
General Motion
A combination of Linear & Angular motion
A wheelchair athlete. Chair & body = Linear. Wheels and arms = Angular
Javelin Thrower. Body & javelin = Linear. Arms & Legs = Angular
Force
Functions
Cause a body at rest to move
Cause a moving body to change direction, accelerate or decelerate
Change an object's shape
Centre of Mass
The point at which the body is balanced in all directions
Newton's Laws of Motion
'Law of Acceleration'
The rate of change of momentum of the ball, is determined by how much power is applied
When a force acts upon an object, the rate of change of acceleration is proportional to the size of the force.
'Law of Inertia'
In a penalty kick, the ball remains stationary unless acted on by the player (external force).
'A body continues in a state of rest or uniform velocity unless and acted upon by an external force
'Law of Motion'
When the ball hits the bar (action), there is an equal & opposite reaction force (rebounding the ball)
'For every action, there is an equal & opposite reaction'
Stability
Factors affecting Stability
Position of athlete's line of gravity
Position of athlete's line of gravity
Size of athlete's area of support
