The concept of the reflex
  1. It is the smallest unit of unconditioned behavior
    1. The concept was formulated by Rene Descartes
      1. Ex: when you touch a hot stove we flinch such responses are to particular stimuli are examples of elicited behavior
    2. The environmental stimulus for the reflex response activates a sensory neuron,
      1. which transmits the sensory message to the spinal cord
        1. Here the neural impulses are relayed to an interneuron,
          1. which in turn passes the impulses to the motor neuron.
            1. The motor neuron activates muscles involved in the reflex response
              1. The entire unit from stimulus input to response output was termed the reflex arc
