Diet and Energy

Annotations:

  • Basically the benefits of food.
  1. Diet and Metabolic Rate
    1. People should eat a balanced diets which contains some of all the different kinds of nutrients:
      1. Carbohydrates
        1. Fats
          1. Protein
            1. vitamins
              1. Minerals
              2. If your diet isn't balanced, you may become malnourished: become too thin or too fat, or suffer from deficiency diseases
                1. To lose body mass people may go on a slimming diet where they eat less. Exercising more helps. These both lead to more energy being used up than being taken in and the body is forced to use up stored fat for energy.
                  1. Metabolic rate is the rate at which chemical reactions take place inside your cells.
                    1. The greater the proportion of muscle to fat in the body, the higher the metabolic rate is likely to be. It also increases during exercise.
                      1. Metabolic rate can be affected by genes, which you inherit from your parents.
                      2. Fatty Foods
                        1. One gram of fat releases twice as much energy as one gram of carbohydrate, or one gram of protein.
                          1. Proteins are not usually a major source of energy for the body because they are used for the more important functions of growth and repair.
