Resource summary
Carbohydrates- polysaccharides and disaccharides.
Disaccharides
Monosaccharides join together to form Polysaccharides.
Glucose linked to Glucose ---> Maltose.
Glucose linked to Fructose ---> Sucrose
Glucose linked to Galactose ---> Lactose

This is a CONDENSATION REACTION.
Forms a GLYCOSIDIC BOND
When water is added to a Disaccharide it BREAKS the Glycosidic bond
Releasing the Monosaccharides that were previously formed.
This is Called a HYDROLYSIS REACTION.
Polysaccharides
Polysaccharides are polymers, formed by combining many monosaccharides
The Monosaccharides are joined by Glycosidic bonds which are formed through CONDENSATION REACTIONS.
Polysaccharides are very large molecules so are INSOLUBLE.
This means that these Polysaccharides are good for storage, or structure , Such as Cellulose.
Starch is a Polysaccharide that is formed when between 200 and 100,000 ALPHA Glucose is joined
