from December 2010 there were a series of floods
occurring in Queensland, Australia, where 16 lives
sadly ended because of high levels of water.(in
certain places) this ended is January 2011. this
recently happened in Queensland with 70 towns
flooded and its capital city Brisbane, central and
western Victoria as well.(69 towns flooded) floods
mostly happen around central and western New
South Wales
the floods are caused by high
levels of rainfall. floods can be
started by melting snow, or
they are often caused by
tropical cyclones , tsunami or
food happening at the same
time.
damage was originally
estimated at around $$1
billion, before it was
raised to $2.38billion
impacts
economics
during floods ( mainly flash
floods) roads, bridges, farms,
houses,and types of
transportation are broken,
destroyed and demolished into
bits.
in fact 35 deaths, 5000 people left
homeless due to high fast water levels
that was continuously flowing to them.
(this can make people sick drown and
die.) all these come at a large cost of
$7-10 billion
environment
the environment also suffers
when floods happen. chemicals
and other stiff end up in water and
sometimes pollute the river
streams that floods end up in, this
means many marine animals are
dying due to pollution
soacil
when floods happen, everyone is brought
together and tries to stay safe under the
worst conditions. lives, belongings are gone
and lost, buildings are damaged and
everything that was really important to
people are ruined.
responces
the Queensland government is joining with other
people and the Australian government , to not only
keep Queensland safe, but think of some ideas to
improve and change before the following wet season.
