How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?

Examtime
Emaze
I used a variety of online webtools when conducting my research so that I
could display the information that I found in a creative way; this helped me to
remember the information. It also meant that I had to re-type everything that
I had learnt which made the information stick into my head better. I think that
using these webtools also made my blog more interesting and then will then
help m e when revising for my exam. Using Blogger was very helpful because it
meant I was able to store all my work in one place and it allowed me to
chronologically go through and work through my research, pre-production
and post production work with ease.
Main product
adobe premier pro
In order to edit all of our footage together we used a software called adobe premier pro, we decided
to use this because I had used it in previous media work and therefore had some knowledge of how
to use it. Also it produces very high quality footage, it allowed us to add in many effects and
transitions to help our music video flow smoothly and enabled us to create the final piece that we
were looking for. We were able to layer two different pieces of footage over another, we did this
because we felt that it looked more professional and fitted in with the quirky persona of our artist. We
made all of our clips black and white because we felt it gave the film a more romantic feel and it
removed any distractions so that the viewer could just focus on the narrative. We also decided to use
cross dissolves for all of our cuts because we felt that they worked best with the mood and timing of
the footage as they created continuity with the slow beat of the song.
Due to the wide variety of editing features that were
available to us on adobe premier pro, we were able to
just use this software when editing. It allowed us to add
titles and to change the contrast of our footage. For
example in some parts of our video the lighting was quite
dark with a high contrast, by decreasing the contrast and
increasing the brightness we were able to make all of the
pieces of footage link together and look the same
brightness.
Youtube
We used Youtube to research how to do parts of editing that we
were unsure about. For example we were unsure on how to layer
over two pieces of footage together so that both were visable.
Therefore we found a Youtube tutorial that enables us to be able
to complete the tasks. Whilst watching the Youtube videos we
discovered the effects control section of adobe premier pro, after
finding this it became quite obvious how to layer clips over one
another.
Construction
Digipak
Microsoft Powerpoint
I used powerpoint to create slides when I was planning my digipak, I
found conventions and examples of people digipaks so that I could try
and picture how I wanted to create mine. I found artists logos and
examples of other production companies logos and then created my
own using Photoshop and put them into the powerpoint to show my
examples. This was helpful because I had more of an idea of how I
wanted to place mine so that I could create something of high quality.
Photoshop
I used the technology of photoshop to create my digipak because I felt like it would allow me to create a high quality and professional digipak. I
have used Photoshop a lot in other coursework subjects and therefore I am quite aware of what to do. I think that Photoshop is a good tool to
use because it has a range of editing features that enabled my digipak to be professional and complex. I wanted to make sure that my digipak
related to both the poster and music video and therefore I used the same texts throughout and experimented with black and white images to
anchor the product to the black and white music video. I used a template from Google to base my digipak around, I wanted to do this so that my
digipak followed the usual style and form of other artists digipaks. I found that when researching the inside page is usually lyrics and the back
page is always the title page - I followed these conventions to make sure my digipak fitted in and so that people would recognise it.
I think that Photoshop was a good software to use because
it allowed me to create the digipak that I had imagined. I
used tools such as; clone stamp, blemish remover and I
experimented greatly with the contrast, brightness,
highlights and shadows. Also using Photoshop to create
both mine and the final digipaks made it much easier
because of the wide range of tools. We were able to make
each image crop to the same size to make them consistent
and professional.
Poster
Dafont.com
I used this website to download different fonts onto my
computer so that I could chose a font that I felt best
suited the look of my artist. I wanted to chose a font that
was unique, girly and fun as this is the overall persona
that we wanted to create for Ava K. We also then used
this font in the digipack so that it showed continuity and
so that it could create artist recognition; meaning that the
audience would be able to recognise the artists logo with
ease.
Photoshop
I used Photoshop to create my artists magazine advert because being an a2 Photography
student I am aware of how to use the software and each tool that can be used. This was
helpful because I was able to easily put together the magazine cover that I was imagining and
planning. I used a variety of tools such as; clone stamp, paint tool and magic wand and many
other tools to complete my poster.
Internet/Google
I used the internet and Google mainly to research into other artists
magazine posters so that I could get an understanding of details
that had to be included and how they are normally set out. This was
very helpful because it allowed me to create a higher quality and
more professional final magazine poster that I am happy with. I
wanted to make sure that I included all the typical conventions of a
poster , sticking with the persona that we wanted to create for our
artist.
Evaluation Stages
Question 1
Prezi
I used Prezi for my first evaluation question so that I could add images to explain and give
examples of the conventions that I have used throughout my work. I also think that Prezi is a
very clear and precise way to present my ideas and answers as it guides you through the
presentation. I
Question 2
Emaze
I decided to use Emaze to present my evaluation question 2
because I think that it worked well with the question that
was being asked. I think that using Emaze was a more
interesting way of presenting my answer rather than using
a standard powerpoint or powtoon. I feel like Powtoon can
look quite childish so for my evaluation I wanted to use a
clearer way of presenting my answers.
Question 3
Pikto Chart
I decided to use Pickto Chart to answer my evaluation
question 3 because I think that it's a very simple web tool
that allows a lot of writing to be read easily and in stages. I
also think that it works well with the question because I had
to answer it in chronological order, due to the audience
feedback on all three drafts of our group music video.
Question 4
Exam Time
I decided to use exam time in order to answer question 4 because I felt as
though everything linked together, and therefore by using a mind map I
would clearly be able to show how each part of the research, planning,
construction and evaluation stages were all linked together. I also think
that exam time is a very helpful web tools to use because it's simple and
effective; it allows a lot of information to be presented in a clear and
precise form.
Youtube
I used Youtube to import the final rendered video into, this is
because Youtube is a popular site that allows you to gain feedback
and comments, it is also very easy to use because it is so straight
forward.
