Alkanes Chemical Reactions

Before Studying Alkanes Reactions Let's Revise what are alkanes    DEFINITION: keyword Alkanes meaning Homologus Series or a Family of Organic Compounds which have only single covalent carbon carbon bonds   Alkanes are very unreactive There are 2 reasons for alkanes being highly unreactive  The first reason is: The bonds between the carbon atoms and between the carbon and hydrogen atoms are very strong

Only under certain conditions that we will discuss later these bonds can be broken   The second reason is that alkanes are saturated compounds     It is not possible for alkanes to react with addition

Important Note: Study the following only if you have already studied the next part (Alkenes) and is revising this part.   There is no double bonds to be broken and change into single bonds which will give chance to external atoms to be added.
