Hardware Any physical components of the computer, including any internal and external parts. i.e. Monitor, Motherboard
Software Computer data. It's anything that can be stored electronically. i.e. Games, iTunes
Motherboard Most important part of the computer. It's connected to all pieces of hardware. i.e.CPU, Memory cards that are attached
Central Processing Unit (CPU) The brain of the computer. i.e. Processor
Random Access Memory (RAM) Type of computer memory where current data and programs are kept so that they can be swiftly accessed before they are closed.
Back Up Copying data and files as insurance in case the original copies are lost. i.e. Norton Online Backup, iCloud
Optical Disk Drive (ODD) A method of storage. It uses laser light in order to read or write data to or from a disk.
Sound Card Allows the use of audio components. It allows the computer to output sound through its' speakers, record sound from the computers microphone, as well as operate audio on a disk.
Modem/ Wifi Box A program/device that allows a computer to carry data through cable lines or telephone wires. A wireless modem allows access to a private wireless network. i.e. Wifi router
Local Area Network (LAN) Is a type of computer network that links devices in a relatively small area. Most are limited to a single building. i.e. In an office building
Wide Area Network Is a type of computer network that extends over a fairly substantial area. It generally consists of multiple LANs.
