Seeing Depth
  1. depth cues: the visual 'clues' that we use to understand depth or distance
    1. monocular depth cues: information about distance that comes from one eye
      1. these include superimposition, relative size, texture gradient, linear perspective and height in the plane
      2. binocular depth cues: information about distance that needs two eyes, such as stereopsis
        1. Size Constancy
          1. we perceive an object as the same size even when its distance from us changes
            1. when an object is close our brain scales it down in size so that it looks normal rather than giant
              1. when an object is far away it is scaled up so that it looks like its normal size rather than tiny
