3. Palpable lymph nodes
4. Difficulty swallowing
5. Red and swollen tonsils
6. White or yellow spots on tonsils
7. Frequent headaches or earaches
8. Upper airway obstruction
Epidemology
1. Affects male and females equally
2. Presents usually during flu season winter to early spring
3. Children and adolescents ages 6-12
Pathophysiology
1. Bacteria and viruses enter the body
2. Pathogens get filtered in the tonsils
4. Pathogens get trapped in the tonsils
Diagnosis
1. Throat culture
2. Physical examination
Treatment
1. Rest and Hydration
2. Tonsilectomy
3. Virus tonsillitis usually does not require treatment
4. Salt water gargling
5. Rest
6. Hydrate
7. Possible anitbiotics
