As the main researcher, I will be recruiting my participants through word of mouth, snowball sampling and letters of invitation (see Attachments below). Snowball ampling will be an ongoing part of the research. I am familiar with several Mountain Guides who reside in Canmore. Using these guides as my initial contacts, my ethnographic research will continue to accumulate data by generating new interview participants through this sampling method. I anticipate to have my initial contacts deliver me contact information of other members who may be interested in participating in the study. This contact information may include a phone number or an email address.
Participants will be informed of the right to withdraw from the study in the letter of invitation, in the informed consent form and by myself immediately before the interview begins. In addition, every participant will have my contact information and can email or call me to withdraw from the study. Any information contributed to the point of withdrawal, such as recorded and transcribed interviews and field notes will be destroyed (shredded) upon request. Participants will be given my contact information and may request feedback on the research findings during any point of the research process. They will also be invited to read my research findings before the final revision of my thesis paper and submit feedback.
