Learning outcomes Describe some ways in which organisms interact and are dependent on each other, with a focus on the acacia–ant system. Explain the principles of constructing phylogenies and give examples relating to flowering plants and insects. Describe the process of coevolution, giving examples. Outline examples of communication relating to acacias and ants. Outline the importance of experiments in testing biological hypotheses and undertake statistical tests of data (t-test and Mann–Whitney U-test). Describe how ideas of energy flow can be applied to acacias and ants.
