"Fall ill" > Define"only" > Absolute"blame" > Define how do we decide who is to be blamed.
[Addressing statement] Playing the blame game can be exhausting but what does it imply when you take full blame of a situation? It means that you had full control of the circumstances and if we rethink, no man is omnipotent. Thus nobody can fully claim credit for any accomplishments, and vice versa nobody can be fully accountable for mires. [Stand]Hence I personally believe that when people fall ill, they do not have only themselves to blame because in the grand scheme of things, a person's action springs from his environment and society.
[Topic Sentences] 1. Individuals alone cannot be blamed for their illnesses when they do not have basic medical knowledge or an understanding of what causes the illness.2. A person does not solely account for the environmental state of their land.3. An individual has little control over the cultural construct and hence are not fully responsible for whatever impact it has on them.4. Even when a person rightfully has full control over their own lifestyle and habits, they do not necessarily make choices that prioritize health.
1. [Elab]- Education or basic knowledge lends itself to assistance in precautionary measures that could prevent illness.- Take for example the Ebola virus in 2015.- If nobody knew the Ebola virus spreads through human to human transmission via direct contact, then no action would be taken by the individual to minimise physical human interaction and this would ultimately lead to them falling ill. - The accessibility of these knowledge is not entirely dependent on the individual. Many factors come to play when we talk about education and knowledge. - Sometimes, certain knowledge is only attained through specialization in a certain field. For example, the issue on whether butter or margarine is a healthier choice. With further knowledge, one would know that margarine is a synthetic concoction that results in higher risk of suffering a cardiac arrest than its natural counterpart - butter. Since the receipt of education is not exclusively hinged on an individual alone, the blame for their illness is only partly theirs.
2. [ Elab ] People alone do not solely account for the environmental state of their land.> The condition of a country cannot be boiled down to the responsibility of an individual. Environmental issues like air quality and poor sanitation are responsibilities of the government too. > Take into study of Beijing where rapid economic expansion has taken a toll on its air quality and in turn the health of its people. > The air quality in Beijing has reached a worrying level that estimated 1.2 million deaths prematurely from air pollution in 2010 alone.Since a country's progression is largely in the government's control, the blame cannot be entirely pushed upon individuals alone.
3. [ELab]> The pre-existing plight of a country, combined with lack of knowledge might breed resistance even when change is introduced. In India, the sanitation problem is a major concern.Millions of Indians defecate in the open because it does not carry any social stigma since it is the norm.> Despite governmental efforts, a strong cultural resistance mindset of "going outdoors is more wholesome", is leading to rejection of the new latrines meant to improve the situation.> This places
4. [Elab] Beauty standards is something an individual has little say over. It continues to pervade in every society and the impact it leads to an individual can be physically damaging. > Take for example the beauty standards that dictates girls with skinny bodies and a thigh gap are beautiful. This confines beauty to a superficial level and yet there are girls who fall prey to these standards. > With the onslaught of social media and cosmetic surgery, teens in developed countries try to emulate models on magazines and media. Some succumb to eating disorders that brings along health consequences. > For example Anorexia Nervosa, a eating disorder where the body is denied the essential nutrients to sustain bodily functions. The body is forced to slow down its processes to conserve energy resulting in illnesses like osteoporosis, kidney failure and anemia. Though the individual could have steer away from the illness by being more mindful of its consequence, society's notion of perfect has indeed given the individual a reason to fit in. Thus, when people fall ill, they do not only have themselves to blame.
5. [ Elab ] Even when a person rightfully has full control over their own lifestyle and habits, they do not necessarily make choices that prioritize health.I acknowledge that people can choose to stay healthy because they have full control over their body. One example is smoking. If a person decides to not quit smoking despite the wealth of literature and advice about how smoking causes lung cancer, then he has a larger blame on his part since he chose not to give up the puff. However, one has to rethink why he picked up the habit in the first place. It could be due to stress induced from a heavy workload or peer pressure from uneducated youth years that unfortunately resulted in a habit that stayed for life.
Many factors and elements come into play when we discuss illness.
