The difference is how the person that asks feels.SupriseWhen you are suprised it is natural to ask a negative question.A: I don't like ice cream.B: You don't like ice cream? That's crazy!ConfirmationWhen you are pretty sure but you want to confirm something.A: Hi! I'm John, do you remember me?B: Didn't you go to the same school as me?
    SuggestionWhen you make a suggestion and you want the person to say yes, you can use a negative question.A: This is a nice restaurant.B: Yes it is. Why don't we sit here?A: What do you want for dinner.B: Why don't we order pizza?

    You hear your friend say that she doesn't eat meat, but you saw her eating bacon this morning. You meet a person at a party. You are pretty sure you know them. You think they went to your school. You really want to have McDonalds for dinner. Your mother asks you what you want to eat.
