• Memory- The persistence of learning over time through the storage retrieval of information

• Flashbulb memory- Clear memory of an emotionally significant moment or event

• Encoding- Getting info into memory system

• Storage- the retention of encoded info over time

• Retrieval- Getting info out of memory storage

• Sensory Storage- the brief initial coding of sensory info in the memory system

• Iconic Memory- momentary sensory of visual stimuli (less than 1/2 second

• Echoic Memory- momentary sensory of auditory or sound info (3-4 sec) 

• Short Term Memory- conscious, activated memory that holds a few items before the info is stored more permanently or forgotten. (10-20 sec)    -"our attention span"         -aka working memory  

• Long Term Memory- the relatively permanent and limitless storehouse of the memory system.                    -Requires deep processing or elaborate rehersal-linking new info to previously learned things

• Maintenance rehearsal- repeating info over and over to maintain in STM

• Chunking- Organizing items into meaningful
